Rapid employees have raised more than £700 for charity.
On Saturday 13 August 2022 , 10 Rapid Racking employees walked up the highest peak in South Wales, Pen y Fan, for charity.
After launching a JustGiving page, the charity hike raised £760.00 for Bliss – a UK charity that supports families with children who are born premature of sick.
Speaking of the accomplishment one of the hike’s organisers, Project Coordination Manager Laura Hoare, says: “It was really challenging due to the extreme heat, but we all made it to the top together. I am so proud of the team and so grateful to everyone who donated!”
The group started the walk at 07:00am from the Storey Arms Outdoor Education Centre, reaching the top of Pen y Fan’s summit at 09:00am where temperatures started climbing to 30 degrees.
Laura comments: “The heat made the climb tough. The sun was up in full by 07:30am and we were in direct heat the entire way. The direct sunlight was uncomfortable but as a team we took more active water breaks to ensure we were safe throughout.”
Head of Marketing, Hannah Dukes, adds: “For a novice hiker the constant incline alone was tough, – especially near the first summit – and as Laura said the heat made it harder. But as a team we really worked well at keeping everyone moving and motivated.”
The Pen y Fan hike is the company’s first group outing since the outbreak of Covid-19. Following the hike’s success the group are keen to organise similar charity events in 2023.
Laura says: “A couple of members of the team would love to do more fundraisers – perhaps Snowdon next, or even pushing ourselves further to do a three peaks climb. That’s not to say we won’t try something different for charity!”
The hike’s co-organiser, Internal Designer, Macauley Messenger, adds: “I’m really pleased with how much we raised for Bliss – a huge thank to everyone who donated to this brilliant cause and supported us. Really looking forward to our next charity outing, so watch this space!”
