Why use pallet racking?
Pallet racking is a safe and cost-effective solution for storing palletised goods above ground level. It is designed to maximise storage space, streamline warehouse operations, and enhance overall business performance. Pallet racking systems provide an organised storage solution, making it easier for warehouse employees to locate and retrieve goods, leading to increased efficiency and reduced downtime. These systems are highly versatile and can be customised to accommodate different types of products and varying inventory levels, allowing businesses to adapt to changing demands and optimise their storage space. Different types of pallet racking
There are several types of pallet racking systems available, each offering unique benefits suited to different warehouse storage needs. Choosing the right one for your business will depend on what products you would want to store and the space you have available.
Wide aisle pallet racking – this system is also known as adjustable pallet racking (APR) and it is considered highly versatile as it provides access to pallets without the need of specialist equipment.
Narrow aisle pallet racking – High racking and long runs make best use of VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) trucks that don’t need to turn in the aisles. These trucks require guidance to keep on a straight path. Wire guidance is supplied with the truck or mechanical guide rail is supplied with the racking.
Heavy duty coil racking – Coil racks provide an effective storage solution for materials rolled into coils. These racks feature special supports designed to hold the coil cradles securely. To ensure the safe storage of coiled materials, the system must be exceptionally heavy-duty, minimising the risk of collapse.
Outdoor Racking – Pallet Racking for outdoors use should be hot-dip galvanised. This provides the best level of long-term protection against corrosion.
Drive-in and Drive Through Racking – both systems are ideal for high-density storage and maximising storage space through storing pallets back-to-back and floor-to-floor.
Pallet Flow Live Racking – this type of warehouse racking system allows for pallets to be loaded at the higher end and unloaded at the lower end, making the rotation of products automatic.
Push Back Racking – this system allows you to store products that span 2-5 pallets. The first pallets to be loaded are pushed back into the racking by the subsequent pallets. A FILO (first-in, last-out) system.
Shuttle racking – pallets are placed on powered remote controlled lifting shuttles that take pallets deep into the racking system whilst the forklift trucks are working elsewhere. A high-density storage system that will bring pallets to the front when required.

Rack protection
Ensuring the safety and longevity of pallet racking systems is paramount for any warehouse operation. Proper pallet racking protection not only safeguards against potential damage from forklift collisions or other accidents but also prolongs the life of your investment. Implementing robust protection measures, such as rack guards, end protectors, and aisle barriers, can prevent costly repairs and downtime.
